Roche de Bellene - Bellenos - Cremant de Bourgogne
Maison Roche de Bellene is the nĆ©gociant label of Nicolas Potel, the well-known and highly regarded winemaker in Burgundy, also the mastermind behind Domaine de Bellene.Ā
Founded in 2009, the emphasis at Roche de Bellene is on individual terroirs from vieilles vignes (old vines ā 40 years or older) that are farmed responsibly. All of the growers that Nicolas works with are either certified organic or farming according to the principles of lutte raisonĆ©e (āsustainable viticultureā). This enables Nicolas to consistently produce the expressive, terroir-driven style that is his vision.
This bottling is made up of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gamay, and AligotĆ©, with an average vine age of 25 years and grows upon beds of clay-limestone. The grapes are hand-harvested and immediately gently pressed in a pneumatic press. Only the first press is used. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel vats. As soon as the base wine is created it is filtered and cold stabilized. Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle thanks to added sugar and yeast. The bottles are aged from 12 to 18 months on wooden wine racks.Ā
Pairing:Ā Shellfish, crab, and lobster
Points:Ā 89, Wine Enthusiast
Format / ABV: 750 ml / 12.0%
