Sadie Family Wines - Treinspoor - Tinta Baroco - South Africa - Swartland
Overview:Ā Eben Sadie is considered one of the great preservationists and visionaries in the new generation of South African winemakers. To Eben, the vineyard and fruit are part of the storyāthe truest expression of his art and philosophy. The wine writer Neal Martin recently called Sadie an āoutspoken, peripatetic, terroir-obsessed winemaker who has been instrumental in putting Swartland on the map. He produces a small portfolio of comparatively expensive, but highly coveted wines based on Rhone varieties sourced from his seemingly never-ending search for pockets of old bush vines and unique terroirs. These are cerebral wines built to age.ā
Tasting Notes:Ā Blackberry and damson plum flavors are laced with notes of loam, underbrush and rose hip in this beautifully balanced red. Very elegant, with vibrant acidity and supple tannins, this moves gracefully across the palate, never lacking intensity. Anise and black tea hints emerge on the long finish. Drink now through 2030.
Pairing:Ā Chile Verde, Crisp Gnocchi with Brussels Sprouts
Points:Ā 93 Wine Spectator, 92 KE, 91 Robert Parker
Format / ABV: 750 ml / 13
